Flourish

by Heather Tankersley

The theme for the summer issue of the Magnolia Journal is: Flourish.

And as I sit and look at the craziness around us, it’s easy to let the chaos take over and get caught up in the “busy” ness of life.

But, as my oldest daughter finishes her first year of public school and my little one wraps up her first dance recital and graduates from pre-K, I am reminded to take pause and take in the things that are most important and to live in the everyday moments as equally and fully as the social media worthy “milestones” ;-).

For instance, last night, we were at Costco picking up supplies for a housewarming party for my amazing clients (they inspire me as individuals and as a family each and every day), an “end of school party” for 150 people at our community pool, and a “thank you” lunch for 80 staff members at my daughter’s school on Monday which my husband and I will be cooking ourselves! (Yes, if it makes you tired reading that, imagine how tired we’re going to be come Monday afternoon. haha)

My little one had to run back to the restroom before we left… and the entire way to and from, we danced together, played a silly game of tag and laughed. Her little laugh is INFECTIOUS and it can’t help but make you smile.

Everyone in the store must have thought we’d lost our minds, but it was in that moment that I realized I was letting the BIG EVENTS overshadow the every day opportunities to share joy with my family and friends.

So I encourage you, as we step into the summer months, to take a step back, try and focus on the here and now, especially when the to do list is pages long and you’re stressed to the max! It’s these little moments where the miracles happen and the memories are made!

I know our paths have crossed through real estate, so you’re probalby wondering what on earth does this have to do with real estate!

Well, it’s simple…

Many of us have been caught up in the frenzy of the market. Whether you’re trying to time the sale of a property or have been trying to purchase your dream home for some time, and now are wondering what’s going to happen with regard to interest rates, inflation, and so on.

My ‘unsolicited’ advice to you is to take a deep breath. Look into the eyes of the people you’ll be creating memories with and think about what’s REALLY important! It’s not necessarily about checking of boxes of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.

For instance, is it important to you to be the “home all the kids hang out at”? Or are you past that phase and want to be able to host quiet dinner parties? Or perhaps, you’re wanting to finally grow the garden you’ve never had time to start before or pick up some new hobbies.

Once you REALLY dig into what’s important, the rest falls into place. It also makes it less likely that you’ll get caught up in the chaos that surrounds us all and makes the whole buying/selling experience stressful!

With that, for the next 72 hours, try to focus on appreciating the moments and taking pause from the ‘busy’ness to embrace the here and now!

Wishing you a weekend to recharge and relax!Until next time… keep smiling… be kind… and stay safe out there :).
