{"id":2028,"date":"2021-07-27T06:40:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-27T11:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/?p=2028"},"modified":"2021-07-27T06:46:54","modified_gmt":"2021-07-27T11:46:54","slug":"a-few-things-chip-gaines-said-really-struck-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/a-few-things-chip-gaines-said-really-struck-me\/","title":{"rendered":"A few things Chip Gaines said really struck me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each week, I try to send out useful information regarding what\u2019s going on in real estate, <a href=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/is-the-housing-market-cooling-off\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">market updates<\/a>, Austin-area info, and even some \u201chappy holiday\u201d emails, but this week, I thought I\u2019d share a little bit more of the \u201cpersonal\u201d side and my \u201cMagnolia Journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2031\" src=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/chip-gaines-197x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/chip-gaines-197x300.png 197w, http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/chip-gaines.png 216w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/>This past Wednesday, we had our first \u201cquarterly\u201d Magnolia Realty meeting in&nbsp;Waco in a year and a half. On my drive up, I listened to \u201cCapital Gaines,\u201d by&nbsp;Chip Gaines in the car and a few things really struck me. He kept talking about:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Passion and what makes&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>you excited<\/strong>&nbsp;each and every day\u2026 and whether we are truly following our&nbsp;purpose and our passion. It really got me thinking about what\u2019s most important.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Authenticity\u2026<\/strong>&nbsp;I think this just jumped out at me as he talked about being&nbsp;real\u2026 being who you are\u2026 and trying to be the best version of the real you and remembering to stay true to you!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then, during our meeting, Chip said something else that hit me again (and yes, Chip Gaines is exactly the same in person as he is on the TV screen in case you\u2019re wondering)!<\/p>\n<p>He said:&nbsp;<em>\u201cI believe y&#8217;all are exceptional. And I think that you&#8217;re incredibly gifted. And I would say that I believe literally that you have been brought here for a specific reason.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I do believe that things happen for a reason. Whether you believe in God, a \u2018universe\u2019, fate, or just good fortune, I don\u2019t think it was by accident that I was brought to Magnolia. You see, I\u2019ve had my real estate license since 2005 in Florida and since 2015 in Texas, but in 2019, I was ready for something \u201cdifferent\u201d than I\u2019d always done. Magnolia was that!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2033\" src=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/silos.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"989\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/silos.png 989w, http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/silos-300x180.png 300w, http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/silos-768x460.png 768w, http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/silos-585x350.png 585w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 989px) 100vw, 989px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>The biggest synergy with Magnolia was simple in the beginning, considering my experience in doing our own fixer-uppers. It was easy to make the connection to the brand and to talk with authority on one of the big things that people love to talk about:&nbsp;<em><strong>Home Renovation!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Even now, my husband and I always have our own \u201cfixer upper\u201d or two (or three) going on at any given time, so it was a natural fit from that perspective\u2026 and still is!&nbsp;<em>(speaking of passion and what gets me up\u2026 I LOVE to turn something ugly into something beautiful.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But what\u2019s kept me with Magnolia is a bigger story. And it is why people flock to the Silos in Waco or are drawn to the Magnolia Network.<\/p>\n<p>I remember when I interviewed with my now broker\u2026 the thing that struck me was \u201cauthenticity\u201d. He started asking me about my family, hobbies, etc. We didn\u2019t even talk about the business side of things until much later in the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>I came home and told my husband that \u201cit just felt right\u201d; that these were good people\u2026 a different kind of real estate!\u201d Whether I joined forces with Magnolia or not, I had been touched by the spirit and the kindness of the company and I was a better person for that single interaction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And that continues to this day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2032\" src=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/magnolia-realty-225x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/magnolia-realty-225x300.png 225w, http:\/\/heathertankersley.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/magnolia-realty.png 233w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>When I get on the phone each morning with our Magnolia team throughout Texas, I feel&nbsp;encouraged and energized, and ready to face whatever that day brings\u2026<\/p>\n<p>When I step into our office meeting each week, I leave feeling grateful for the people I get to work with each and every day, both as colleagues and&nbsp;<em><strong>clients<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m constantly reminded of what it means to act with integrity, to do the right thing, and to go the extra mile,&nbsp;<em>just because\u2026<\/em>&nbsp;Not because it\u2019s required. Not because I\u2019m looking for something in return, but because I want to! And&nbsp;<em><strong>that\u2019s something that runs through the Magnolia culture.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>For example&#8230; Last year, a client of mine was diagnosed with cancer 2 days after closing.<\/p>\n<p>But, by then, she was more than a client.&nbsp;<strong>She was a friend.<\/strong>&nbsp;We had only met in person once, but we just had a connection, and I was blessed to be on the journey with her. There were many times she\u2019d call me early in the morning (like 5am!!!) because she just needed someone to talk to while she was alone in a hospital bed, locked down in isolation due to COVID.<\/p>\n<p>I laughed with her and cried with her.<\/p>\n<p>We Facetimed during the early days of COVID while our kids did Cosmic Yoga together!<\/p>\n<p>Her one wish was to have Joanna Gaines do a Facetime makeover on their home. As you can imagine, Jo gets a LOT of requests, but I reached out anyway to see if there was anything at all that we, as Magnolia, could do.<\/p>\n<p>Without hesitation, the director of Magnolia Realty got on it and within a few days, she received a care package, complete with a personalized sign from Jimmy Don who took the time to write her a personal message. She was so blown away and said over and over again&nbsp;<em>\u201cI can\u2019t believe that Magnolia had thought of ME\u201d.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She lost her battle with cancer earlier this year and I was able to help her husband fulfill their dream of renovating their home and creating the beautiful space she\u2019d envisioned for her family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THAT is what being a part of Magnolia is about\u2026<\/strong>&nbsp;Long after the \u201cbusiness\u201d of buying and selling is done, it\u2019s the relationships that remain.<\/p>\n<p>Sure\u2026 Real estate has its ups and downs.&nbsp; I have days where I think, \u201cWhat in the world am I doing?\u201d or \u201cIs this what I\u2019m supposed to be doing?\u201d and then I meet a client who is transitioning to the next phase of their life and realize that I was put in their path for a reason, just like Magnolia was put into mine.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes, it\u2019s simply about finding someone a home quickly because they\u2019ve been relocated to Austin and need a house or they simply want to get in on the hot market here!<\/p>\n<p>But other times, it\u2019s helping someone take advantage of opportunities in front of them, take a life-changing step where they move to a new city with only a hope and a dream. It&#8217;s taking the \u201chouse\u201d stress off during probate or divorce or a job transfer or helping someone invest in real estate.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about finding solutions, always acting with integrity and doing what\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p>Some days are difficult and we have to make hard calls and do hard things that test our resolve\u2026 that test our commitment\u2026 that make us question things. And that\u2019s okay\u2026<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve all had a tough 18 months and for some of us, we\u2019ve been shaken to the core. For others, we\u2019ve been able to find calm in the storm.&nbsp; But one quote from Joanna sticks out:&nbsp;<em><strong>\u201cIf you can\u2019t find happiness in the ugliness, you\u2019re not going to find it in the beauty, either.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>So as we come to the other side of this, there\u2019s much to be grateful for. There is much to reflect on. And I encourage us to look for the beauty in life around us.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to the future. Our paths have crossed for a reason and&nbsp;<strong>it\u2019s my sincerest hope that we can come together for whatever is next for you!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>P.S.
