Here are 12 tips to keep you from getting caught by the spam filters:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Produce quality content<\/strong> (this includes making sure your email code is clean, formatting is done correctly, links are used appropriately, and that the messages don’t look and feel “spammy”, etc.)<\/li>
  2. Mail to opt-in only address<\/strong> (confirmed opt-in preferably). Always collect the timestamp, IP address, browser, and operating system.<\/li>
  3. Write relevant and ENGAGING subject lines<\/strong>. Split test different subject lines, but never be misleading.<\/li>
  4. Personalize your email<\/strong>. In addition to addressing subscribers by first name, consider collecting additional information throughout the sales cycle and including it when it makes sense.<\/li>
  5. Use a real reply to address<\/strong>. In other words, don’t use do-not-reply@. This should go to a real mailbox that is actively monitored.<\/li>
  6. Use consistency with regard to frequency<\/strong>. Finding the right frequency for your email program requires testing, but consistency is key.<\/li>
  7. Never use a free email address as your “from” address such as yourname@gmail.com or yourname@aol.com.<\/strong> This is a big red flag and almost guarantees problems, in the short and long term.<\/li>
  8. Avoid spam traps including pristine traps and recycled traps.<\/strong><\/li>
  9. Check blacklists BEFORE sending your email<\/strong>. This includes checking your sending IP address as well as any and all domains in your messages.<\/li>
  10. Include a text version of your email<\/strong>. Even though most subscribers have HTML enabled, there are still a handful of your subscribers that will get your messages in plain text.<\/li>
  11. Keep your list engaged<\/strong> (dump people that are no longer opening your messages or clicking your links. This will keep you of the spam folder for other subscribers that ARE interested).<\/li>
  12. Send to your most engaged subscribers first when sending a campaign<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    BONUS Tip: Don’t over send based on your resources. (IPs, domain, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
